Kieron Pollard, Sean Abbott star in The Hundred

In Southampton, Trent Rockets batted first and posted 126-8 from 100 balls. After top-order batters Tom Banton (30 off 17), Adam Lyth (16 off 14) and Joe Root (16 off 12) charted valuable runs up front, Chris Jordan tilted the tide back in Southern Brave’s favour with three quick wickets.

Chasing 127, Southern Brave openers Alex Davies and James Vince slapped 28 runs each before a middle-order collapse reduced them to 78-6. Sam Cook (2-15) and John Turner (3-24) kept Rockets in the hunt with timely breakthroughs

However, Kieron Pollard’s six-hitting barrage against Rashid Khan proved too costly for Rockets as Southern Brave cantered to a two-wicket win off the penultimate ball.

In the second The Hundred match of the day and the 25th of the competition, Welsh Fire made 146-8 from 100 balls, courtesy of a 32-ball 54 from Tom Kohler-Cadmore. For Birmingham Phoenix, Australian paceman Sean Abbott picked up four of the fallen eight wickets to bag figures of 4-16.

In response, Birmingham Phoenix openers Ben Duckett (31-ball 54) and Moeen Ali (46-ball 60) clubbed blistering half-centuries to set up an emphatic five-wicket victory in 93 balls.
