The 30th match of the 2024 Men’s Hundred between Southern Brave and Welsh Fire was declared a no-result courtesy of persistent rainfall in the second innings. Meanwhile, the Trent Rockets successfully chased down the 151-run target set by the Oval Invincibles in the 31st encounter of the season at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

With the tournament inching towards the playoff stage with every passing game, let's have a look at how the teams have positioned themselves after the completion of 31 games this season:

Oval Invincibles, despite their loss against the Trent Rockets, top the points table with six wins in eight matches. With 12 points and a net run rate (NRR) of +0.893 to their name, the Invincibles are living up to their name, having qualified for the next stage of the competition. Southern Brave, after a no result against Welsh Fire, qualified for the playoffs with five wins and 11 points so far this season. They occupy the second position with an NRR of +0.595.

The Northern Superchargers have amassed the same number of points as the Southern Brave and sit pretty in the third position with five wins in eight matches and a net run rate of -0.453. Birmingham Phoenix too have had a fruitful season so far, having won five out of their seven matches and a tally of 10 points. They occupy the fourth position with a decent NRR of +0.324.

The Trent Rockets end their campaign in fifth place with eight points in eight matches, while Welsh Fire (six points), Manchester Originals (two points), and London Spirit (two points) have also been knocked out of the 2024 edition of the Men’s Hundred, occupying the sixth, seventh, and eighth positions, respectively.

No result seals a playoff berth for the Brave; Eliminated Rockets end their campaign on a strong note

The Welsh Fire displayed a blazing batting display in the first match of the day against the Southern Brave, posting a colossal first-innings total of 181/5, with Luke Wells (53 off 30) and Glenn Phillips (48 off 19) being the primary contributors for the Fire.

Persistent rainshower interrupted play when the score read 21/2 for the Southern Brave in the second essay. The game was eventually called off, with Brave and Fire sharing a point each in the 30th match of the season. A shared point meant that the Southern Brave would continue participating in the later stages of this competition.

In the second match of the day, the Oval Invincibles batting lineup was a living embodiment of teamwork, as all four of their top-order batters - Will Jacks (30 off 17), Dawid Malan (53* off 43), Jordan Cox (39 off 30), and Donovan Ferreira (27 off 10) - made useful contributions to help their side post a total of 150/3 in the first inning. Sam Cook scalped two wickets for the Rockets.

Batting contributions from Rockets batters Alex Hales (35 off 25), Tom Alsop (41* off 24), and Rovman Powell (45 off 27) helped their team chase the desired target with six wickets and a total of six deliveries to spare, with the Rockets winning the 31st encounter of the campaign in style.
