The Hundred Men’s 2024 season continued with two matches on Thursday, August 1, at Lord’s, London, and the Rose Bowl, Southampton. London Spirit defeated Welsh Fire by three wickets in the first match of the day, while Southern Brave beat Manchester Originals by seven wickets in the evening game.

The Oval Invincibles, who are still unbeaten in the tournament, continue to occupy the top spot in The Hundred Men’s 2024 points table with two wins in two matches and a formidable NRR of 1.295. Trent Rockets are ranked second with two wins and a defeat from three outings.

Southern Brave climbed to number three on the list after beating Manchester Originals by seven wickets in Southampton. They have also secured two wins and a defeat in three matches. Birmingham Phoenix slipped to number four owing to a slightly inferior NRR of -0.556.

Welsh Fire takes the fifth spot on the table with a solitary win in three attempts. London Spirit’s three-wicket win over Fire marked their first of the season as they opened their account to take the sixth position. Northern Superchargers are placed seventh on the table while winless Manchester Originals continue to languish at the bottom with defeats in each of their three appearances.


London Spirit and Southern Brave secure wins on August 1

Batting first at Lord’s, Welsh Fire batters were restricted to just 94/9 in 100 balls despite an eight-ball 23 from number three batter Luke Wells. For London Spirit, Liam Dawson (3/10) and Nathan Ellis (3/16) hogged the limelight with dynamic spells. In pursuit of 95, London Spirit lost seven wickets but chased down the target with 13 balls to spare.

Slumping to 38/4 after Matt Henry’s opening burst, Shimron Hetmyer (30* off 21 balls) survived Haris Rauf’s three-wicket scare to steer London Spirit past the finishing line.

Between Southern Brave and Manchester Originals in Southampton, the latter scored 116/6 from 100 balls after being put into bat first. Number three Wayne Madsen scored an unbeaten 43 after the early dismissals of both openers to Craig Overton. Tymal Mills (2/26) and Chris Jordan (2/25) also picked up two wickets each in the innings for Southern Brave.

Chasing 117, Southern Brave batters hunted down their target with seven wickets and 22 balls to spare. Opener Alex Davies and James Vince smacked dazzling 20s, while number five Laurie Evans top-scored with 25* off 15 balls to defy the likes of Tom Hartley (1/16) and Usama Mir (1/10).
