London Spirit locked horns with Manchester Originals in the 23rd game of The Hundred Men’s 2024 at the Lord's Stadium in London on Friday, August 9. Manchester won by 12 runs after posting 135/5 and restricting London at 123/5.

Oval Invincibles are still at the top of the points table with five wins in six matches. They have a positive net run rate of +0.778. Similarly, Southern Brave are currently holding the second spot, having won four out of six games. They have a healthy NRR of +0.679.

Northern Superchargers, who jumped from fifth to third after their previous match was abandoned, have won three games out of six. They have earned seven points with a negative NRR of -0.917.

Trent Rockets and Birmingham Phoenix, currently ranked third and fourth respectively, have bagged six points each. Meanwhile, Welsh Fire are placed sixth with two wins and three losses in six games.

London Spirit and Manchester Originals are still ranked in the last two spots, respectively. Despite registering their maiden 12-run victory over London, Manchester languishes at the bottom of the table with two points.


The Hundred 2024: Phil Salt’s 58 and Fazalhaq Farooqi’s three-wicket haul guides Manchester to first success

London Spirit won the toss and asked Manchester Originals to bat first. After the dismissal of opener Matthew Hurst on the seventh ball, Philip Salt and Max Holden stitched a 94-run partnership for the second wicket.

Manchester's captain and wicketkeeper-batter Salt smashed a 41-ball 58-run knock with four boundaries and two sixes. Holden added 38 runs from 29 balls with three fours while Paul Walter (15*) and Wayne Madsen (17) made handy contributions. The team finished at 135/5.

Richard Gleeson and Olly Stone chipped in two wickets for the London Spirit while the rest failed to pick up a wicket.

In reply, Michael-Kyle Pepper, the London Spirit opener, scored nine runs from seven balls. However, his partners Keaton Jennings hammered a 50-ball 61-run knock, featuring six boundaries. Shimron Hetmyer also backed him with a gritty 35-ball 44-run inning, a knock that included three fours and one six, while the rest were dismissed in single digits.

As a result, the London Spirit were restricted to 123/5 and fell short of 12 runs. Fazalhaq Farooqi was the wrecker-in-chief with a three-wicket haul while Scott Currie picked up one.
