Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, hosted the 17th match of the 2024 Men’s Hundred between Welsh Fire and Southern Brave on Monday, August 5. Upon winning the toss, Welsh Fire asked the Southern Brave to bat first. Brave skipper James Vince (73* off 50) top-scored for his side, facing half the deliveries.
Vince’s knock were laced with seven boundaries and three maximums. Cameos from Leus du Plooy (21 off 13) and Kieron Pollard (17 off 12) further down the order helped the Southern Brave post a competitive first-inning total of 139/5. Haris Rauf scalped a couple of wickets for the Welsh Fire.
Chasing 140 runs for victory, West Fire’s batting lineup never got going as they were bundled out for a mere 97 off just 95 balls, handing the Southern Brave a comprehensive 42-run victory. Brave bowlers Tymal Mills (4/16) and Danny Briggs (3/14) were the primary conspirators in Welsh’s batting flop.
