The Hundred Men’s 2024 season continued on Thursday, August 8 with an exciting double-header in Cardiff and London.
The first match of the day played out between Northern Superchargers and Welsh Fire turned out to be a rain-marred deadlock at Sophia Gardens. In a 25-ball contest, the Superchargers managed to score just 26/5 after being invited to bat first. Fire pacers Matt Henry and Haris Rauf struck twice each from their ends while David Willey removed Matthew Short for a first-ball duck.
In the second match of the day and the 22nd of the competition, defending champions Oval Invincibles prevailed with a six-wicket margin over Southern Brave at The Oval. Pace demon Tom Curran claimed figures of 4/24 for the Invincibles to restrict Brave to just 118/8 from 100 balls.
Tom’s brother and fellow speedster Sam Curran also claimed two wickets, including that of dangerman Kieron Pollard at the death. For the Brave, captain James Vince held his team’s faltering innings together for a while by crafting 52 runs.
In response, Oval Invincibles batters consumed just 85 deliveries to romp to an easy win. After the early dismissals of openers Will Jacks and Dawid Malan to Craig Overton and Chris Jordan, number three Jordan Cox belted 46 unbeaten runs to headline the rest of the chase.
The Hundred Men's 2024 Most Runs List
Southern Brave captain James Vince soared past the 300-run mark this The Hundred Men’s 2024 season through his 52-run knock against Oval Invincibles. Leading the run-scoring charts, he is followed by Sam Curran (176 runs), Tom Banton (170 runs), Nicholas Pooran (161 runs) and Ben Duckett (156 runs) as the five most successful batters of the season so far.
Alex Hales and Matthew Hurst take the sixth and seventh slots on the top 10 list for cracking 145 and 130 runs respectively. Northern Superchargers’ Harry Brook claims eighth position with 120 runs while only a run distinguishes ninth-ranked Jacob Bethell (111 runs) from Kieron Pollard (110 runs).
The Hundred Men's 2024 Most Wickets List
Sam Curran leveled up with Oval Invincibles teammate Adam Zampa with 13 wickets as the two bowlers claim the top two slots among the highest wicket-takers of The Hundred Men’s 2024 season. Southern Brave pacers Chris Jordan and Tymal Mills occupy the subsequent two positions with 11 wickets each, and they are followed by Welsh Fire’s Haris Rauf with nine wickets.
Trent Rockets teammates Imad Wasim and Rashid Khan, as well as Birmingham Phoenix’ Tim Southee, have claimed eight wickets each. Craig Overton and Liam Dawson’s respective seven-wicket collection keeps them at number nine and 10 on the top 10 bowler’s charts.
