The Hundred Men’s 2024 season continued on Thursday, August 8 with an exciting double-header in Cardiff and London.

The first match of the day played out between Northern Superchargers and Welsh Fire turned out to be a rain-marred deadlock at Sophia Gardens. In a 25-ball contest, the Superchargers managed to score just 26/5 after being invited to bat first. Fire pacers Matt Henry and Haris Rauf struck twice each from their ends while David Willey removed Matthew Short for a first-ball duck.

In the second match of the day and the 22nd of the competition, defending champions Oval Invincibles prevailed with a six-wicket margin over Southern Brave at The Oval. Pace demon Tom Curran claimed figures of 4/24 for the Invincibles to restrict Brave to just 118/8 from 100 balls.

Tom’s brother and fellow speedster Sam Curran also claimed two wickets, including that of dangerman Kieron Pollard at the death. For the Brave, captain James Vince held his team’s faltering innings together for a while by crafting 52 runs.

In response, Oval Invincibles batters consumed just 85 deliveries to romp to an easy win. After the early dismissals of openers Will Jacks and Dawid Malan to Craig Overton and Chris Jordan, number three Jordan Cox belted 46 unbeaten runs to headline the rest of the chase.
