The Oval Invincibles took on the London Spirit in the first match of the day at the Kennington Oval, London, on Sunday, August 11.

The home side, after losing the toss, were put into the bat first as Michael Pepper (27 off 18) gave the Spirit a good start at the top of the order. Except for Pepper, no London Spirit batter made a sizable contribution as they were bundled out for a mere 96 runs in just 92 deliveries. Invincibles bowlers Adam Zampa (4/17) and Sam Curran (3/10) wreaked havoc among the Spirit batting lineup.

Dawid Malan (29* off 27) and Jordan Cox (61* off 30) made light work of the target ahead of them as they helped the Oval Invincibles register a commanding nine-wicket win over the London-based franchise.

The 27th encounter of the season saw the Manchester Originals put up a first-inning score of 152/7 at Old Trafford against the Northern Superchargers courtesy of skipper Phil Salt’s dynamic batting display. Salt scored a quickfire 61 off just 28 deliveries, striking at an impressive 217.85. Mitchell Santner scalped 3/24 for the Superchargers.

Chasing 153, the Northern Superchargers lost their top order in quick succession as the situation started to look dire for the visitors. Harry Brook (43 off 26), Nicholas Pooran (66 off 33), and Adam Hose (27* off 14) made up for the Supercharger’s top-order collapse as they chased the target with seven wickets and three deliveries to spare.

Adam Zampa has already claimed a mammoth 17 wickets after seven matches in the 2024 Men’s Hundred. The Aussie leggie has yet again proved his worth in the shorter format, as he is atop the most wickets list with a miserly economy rate of 6.94 and best bowling figures of 4/17.

Sam Curran sits pretty in second place with just one wicket short of Zampa, and his all-round performances place him sixth on the run’s leaderboard as well. Chris Jordan (14), Haris Rauf (11), and Tymal Mills (11) have all had exceptional campaigns, and they rightfully occupy the third, fourth, and fight places, respectively.

Sean Abbott (9), Rashid Khan (9), Imad Wasim (8), Tim Southee (8), and Craig Overton round off the 2024 highest wicket-takers chart, occupying the sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and 10th places, respectively.
