Manchester Originals pummeled London Spirit to register their first win of The Hundred Men’s 2024 season. The match, played out between the two bottom dwellers of the competition, was staged at the iconic Lord’s venue on Friday, August 9.

Batting first, Manchester Originals made 135/5 from 100 balls. London Spirit fast bowler Richard Gleeson struck early to get rid of Matthew Hurst before captain and opening batter Phil Salt led Manchester Originals recovery with a 94-run partnership with Max Holden.

Salt himself top-scored with a crafty 58 before Spirit pacers Gleeson (2/32) and Olly Stone (2/35) fought back to reduce Originals from 97/1 to 110/5 in a space of just 13 deliveries.

Chasing 136, London Spirit’s response fell flat at 123/5 to fall 12 runs short of their target. Early dismissal of opener Michael Pepper and first-ball ducks for Ollie Pope and Dan Lawrence jolted Spirit early before Keaton Jennings (61* off 50 balls) and Shimron Hetmyer (44 off 35 balls) regained some momentum for the hosts.

However, Fazalhaq Farooqi’s three-wicket haul proved too costly for London Spirit, handing Manchester Originals their opening points of the season.
