The Hundred 2024: Most Runs and Most Wickets after Birmingham Phoenix vs Oval Invincibles (Updated) ft. Sam Billings & Adam Zampa

The Oval Invincibles and Birmingham Phoenix met in the opening match of The Hundred 2024 on Wednesday, July 24. The Kennington Oval in London hosted the clash.

Birmingham Phoenix won the toss and opted to bat first. Opening batter Rishi Patel scored 25 runs off 25 balls with the aid of two boundaries. However, the next four batters were dismissed in single digits. Jacob Bethell added 22 runs while Benny Howell scored 24 off 13 while the remaining batters were bowled out to 89/10.

Adam Zampa of Oval Invincibles chipped in three wickets while Mohammad Amir, Saqib Mahmood, and Will Jacks secured two wickets each. Nathan Sowter also picked up a wicket.

In reply, Invincibles lost their opener Jacks for 6. However, Dawid Malan’s unbeaten 24, Tawanda Muyeye’s 23 off 14, and captain Sam Billings’s 31 off 28 helped them secure a comfortable eight-wicket victory. Tim Southee secured two wickets for the Phoenix.

Oval Invincibles captain Sam Billings scored 31 runs off 28 balls. His knock featured four fours and one six. He is now ranked first in the run-scoring charts.

Rishi Patel of Birmingham Phoenix scored 25-run-a-ball with the help of one four and a six. He is currently second in the leaderboard.

Benny Howell and Dawid Malan occupy the next two spots with 24 runs each. Following closely is Tawanda Muyeye, who scored 23 runs off 14 balls.

Oval Invincibles’ Adam Zampa picked up a three-wicket haul and secured the top spot. He bowled four overs and conceded 11 runs.

Fellow Invincibles bowler Mohammad Amir took two wickets at an economy rate of 2.80. His teammate Will Jacks also picked up two wickets at an economy rate of 4.8.

Phoenix pacer Tim Southee claimed two wickets in his four-over spell while conceding 20 runs. Next is Saqib Mahmood of Oval Invincible, who bowled the most expensive spell in the previous game, conceding 25 runs in three overs. However, he bagged two wickets and occupied the fifth spot.
