Fans expressed their reactions to former Indian batter Gautam Gambhir being appointed the new head coach of the Indian team. BCCI secretary Jay Shah made the announcement on Tuesday (July 9) evening on his social media handles.

During the Indian Premier League 2024 season, rumors picked up that Gambhir will succeed Rahul Dravid as the Men in Blue's head coach. He served as a mentor to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2024, who ended up winning the title.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed Gambhir's appointment on Tuesday, writing on social media platform X:

"It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Mr as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has witnessed this changing landscape up close. Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward."

Gautam Gambhir's new role impressed most Indian cricket fans, who shared their reactions on X.

Gautam Gambhir's first assignment will be the Sri Lanka series

The former Indian batter will start his coaching assignment with the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, set to take place from July 27 to August 7.

The biggest immediate challenge for Gautam Gambhir will be creating a team capable of having a deep run in the 2025 Champions Trophy and 2026 T20 World Cup.
