Mumbai Indians (MI) have appointed former India Paras Mhambrey as bowling coach ahead of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Mhambrey has previously worked as Team India's bowling coach during Rahul Dravid's stint as head coach.

Mhambrey was the Indian bowling coach during the Men in Blue's 2024 T20 World Cup triumph earlier this year. It is worth mentioning that this will be the 52-year-old second run with Mumbai. He has been part of the team's title-winning campaigns in IPL and Champions League T20.

The franchise confirmed that Mhambrey will work alongside current bowling coach Lasith Malinga. Announcing the news on Wednesday, October 16, the five-time champions wrote on Instagram:

"𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐬 𝐌𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐲 returns HOME 💙 Mumbai Indians, today, announced the return and appointment of Paras Mhambrey as Bowling Coach, who will work along with current Bowling Coach Lasith Malinga, as part of the coaching team under head coach, Mahela Jayawardene. Paras Mhambrey was part of the Mumbai Indians coaching team previously, a run which included winning IPL Championship and CLT20."

Mumbai have made major changes to their coaching setup ahead of IPL 2025. The side recently reappointed former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene as the head coach, ending former South African wicketkeeper Mark Boucher's two-year stint.

Mumbai Indians endured a disastrous campaign in IPL 2024

The Mumbai-based franchise traded in all-rounder Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans (GT) ahead of IPL 2024. He also replaced five-time title-winning captain Rohit Sharma as the skipper, a move that received widespread backlash from the team's fans.

To make matters worse for Mumbai, they endured a disastrous campaign, failing to qualify for the all-important playoffs. They won just four out of their 14 league matches, finishing with the wooden spoon.

Mumbai Indians can now revamp their squad in the IPL 2025 mega auction. As per the new retention rules, they will be allowed to retain a maximum of six players from their existing squad. The retentions can be direct or with the help of the Right to Match (RTM) option in the auction.
