T20 Spring Challenge, a new women's domestic T20 tournament, announced by Cricket Australia, is set to kick-start on Friday, October 11, and run till Sunday, October 20. The inaugural edition of the T20 Spring Challenge will be played over 10 days at two venues, Adelaide and Sydney.
The new T20 League has been introduced to have enough women's domestic games due to the shortening of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), one of the iconic women's T20 franchise tournaments.
The new domestic T20 tournament will feature nine teams, that is, the eight WBBL teams - Sydney Thunder Women, Brisbane Heat Women, Melbourne Renegades Women, Hobart Hurricanes Women, Sydney Sixers Women, Adelaide Strikers Women, Perth Scorchers Women, Melbourne Stars Women, and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Women.
Each team will play four matches. The top four teams will then play in the semi-finals and finals. The semi-finals will be played on October 19 at 4:30 AM IST and 9:00 AM IST, while the finals will be played on October 20 at 9:00 AM IST.
Sydney Thunder Women and Brisbane Heat Women will contest in the opening fixture of this new and exciting domestic T20 league on October 11. The main edition of this tournament will ensure more opportunities for domestic players to showcase their talent as the league will clash with the Women's T20 World Cup, meaning most top players will not be available.
Katie Mack will lead the Australian Capital Territory Women. The first edition of this new tournament also serves as a warm-up and preparatory ground for the Women's Big Bash League season 10 which will begin on October 27.
