Suryakumar Yadav shares a strong message on social media amid uproar over Kolkata rape and murder case

Team India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav took to social media on Sunday, August 18, to share his views on the gruesome Kolkata rape and murder case that has shocked the entire nation. Sharing a strong message, he emphasized the importance of educating men concerning sensitivity towards women.

On August 9, a trainee doctor was raped and murdered at the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Ever since the horrible incident came to light, there have been protests across the country, with doctors across the nation even going on a 24-hour strike.

Taking to his Instagram handle on Sunday, Suryakumar put up a story, a template post, which read:

"Educate your son and your brothers and your father and your husband and your friends."

The post began with the sentence 'Protect your daughter', but the words were struck out and followed by the lines 'educate your son...'

Before Suryakumar, Team India pacer Mohammed Siraj had also shared a strong post on his social media handle over the brutal Kolkata rape and murder case. While sharing a collage of headlines of news reports on rape, he wrote:

"What's you excuse this time or is it still her fault, because men will be men, right?"

On the other hand, Team India's lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah also shared a post on his Instagram story, which read:

"Don’t tell women to change their path - change the terrain. Every woman deserves better."

Meanwhile, former India captain Sourav Ganguly, in an interview with news agency PTI, demanded severe punishment for the culprits so that no one dares to commit such a heinous act again.


Harbhajan Singh writes open letter over Kolkata rape and murder case

Earlier on Sunday, former India off-spinner and Aam Aadmi Party MP Harbhajan Singh shared an open letter on his official social media handles, demanding justice for the Kolkata rape and murder victim. In the open letter that was addressed to the West Bengal government, the CBI, and citizens of India, the cricketer-turned-politician wrote:

"This unspeakable act of violence, which shook the conscience of all of us, is not just a heinous crime against one individual but a grave assault on the dignity and safety of every woman in our society. It is a reflection of the deeply rooted issues within our society and a blatant reminder of the urgent need for systemic change and action by the authorities."

Amid the ongoing protests over the rape and murder case, the Durand Cup derby between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, scheduled at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Sunday, was canceled.
