A total of four matches of the Royal London One Day Cup 2024 were scheduled on Wednesday, August 07, 2024.

In Group A, Worcestershire defeated Kent in the first game of the day while Somerset beat Northamptonshire and Hampshire hammered Derbyshire in the third game. In Group B, Gloucestershire beat Sussex by the DLS method.

Somerset jumped from third spot to first with eight points after a seven-wicket (DLS Method) win over Northamptonshire. Similarly, Hampshire, with eight points, also ascended from fourth to second, following their 143-run victory over Derbyshire.

Meanwhile, despite a three-wicket win, Worcestershire slipped from second to third with four wins from five games. Derbyshire also dropped from first to fourth, winning four out of six games.

Middlesex, Durham, and Kent occupy the following three spots, winning just two out of their five games. Northamptonshire is ranked eighth with just one win in six games while Lancashire languishes at the bottom with five losses in a row.

There weren’t any major movements in the Group B points table. Glamorgan, Warwickshire, and Nottinghamshire still hold the top three spots. Meanwhile, Gloucestershire jumped from sixth to fourth with three wins and as many losses. They beat Sussex in the last game by eight wickets.

Yorkshire and Leicestershire dropped from fourth and fifth spots to fifth and sixth, respectively, with six points each. Essex and Surrey retained their seventh and eighth positions with two points each while Sussex continued to languish at the bottom of the table with six losses.


Worcestershire, Somerset, and Hampshire succeed in Group A; Sussex loses sixth in a row in B

Worcestershire bundled out Kent to 259 in the first game. In reply, they chased the target in 46.5 overs, thanks to half-centuries from captain Jake Libby (75) and Rob Jones (57).

In the following game, Somerset restricted Northamptonshire to 155/10 in 37.3 overs. However, Andrew Umeed’s match-winning 63-run knock helped them secure a seven-wicket DLS win.

Hampshire had imposed a massive 296-run target for Derbyshire in the third game. Joe Weatherley top-scored 93 followed by Nick Gubbins (63). In reply, Dominic Kelly’s five-for aided them in a huge 143-run win to boast their net run rate.

Gloucestershire handed Sussex sixth consecutive loss in the previous game. Bowling first, they limited Sussex to 132/9 with Ajeet Dale and Zaman Akhter leading the bowling unit, taking four and three wickets each. In response, Miles Hammond’s 46 and Cameron Bancroft’s 53-ball 49 helped them secure a comfortable win by DLS method.
