On Tuesday, August 6, three matches were contested in the Royal London One Day Cup 2024. Essex and Yorkshire met in the 42nd match, Surrey went up against Leicestershire in the 43rd match, and Middlesex met Durham in the next.

Yorkshire and Surrey won by three wickets and 27 runs, respectively while the last game of the day was abandoned due to rain without a toss.

On that note, let’s take a look at how the points tables read in both Groups:

Derbyshire continues to sit at the top of the table with eight points while Worcestershire, Somerset, and Hampshire occupy the next three spots with six points each.

Middlesex and Durham moved from sixth and seventh positions to fifth and sixth, respectively, with five points each. On the other hand, Northamptonshire and Lancashire continue to languish in the bottom two spots.

Glamorgan and Warwickshire are still ranked in the top two spots with five out of five wins. Similarly, Nottinghamshire continues to sit in the third position with six points.

Yorkshire registered their third win over Essex and jumped from sixth to fourth spot with a net run rate of -0.182. On the other hand, Leicestershire’s second loss against Surrey dropped them to fifth spot.

Gloucestershire is now ranked sixth with four points while Essex and Sussex, who grabbed their maiden triumph against Leicestershire, occupy the next two spots with two points each. Surrey is still at the foot of the Group B points table, having lost five games in a row.


Yorkshire secures third win while Surrey bags first

Yorkshire opted to bowl first and limited Essex to 243/9. Robin Das (67) and Luc Benkenstein (68) were the top scorers for Essex while Ben Coad and Benjamin Cliff chipped in three wickets each for Yorkshire.

In reply, Yorkshire achieved the target in 48.1 overs, losing seven wickets in the process. James Wharton’s 71 and half-centuries from skipper Shan Masood (58) and Dominic Bess (53*) helped them secure a comfortable win. Shane Snater was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets while Essex captain Tom Westley took two.

In the following game, Surrey had set a 297-run target for Leicestershire thanks to Dominic Sibley’s 120-ball century and fifties from Ryan Patel (72) and Ben Geddes (61). Ian Holland and Tom Scriven chipped in two wickets for Leicestershire.

In reply, despite half-centuries from Soloman Budinger (70) and Scriven (55), and handy knocks from Ajinkya Rahane (27), Ben Cox (29), Peter Handscomb (23), Sam Wood (22), Leicestershire fell short by 17 runs. Cameron Steel claimed three wickets for Surrey while Conor McKerr and James Taylor took two. The rest of the bowling lineup picked up one each.
