The Royal London One Day Cup 2024 season resumed on Tuesday, August 6 after a two-day hiatus with a triple-header across three different English venues.

The action kicked off with a Group B match between Yorkshire and Essex at Scarborough. The latter listed 243/9 from 50 overs after being put into bat first. Middle-order batters Robin Das and Luc Benkenstein belted identical 60s to emerge as the biggest benefactors of the Essex innings. They countered three-wicket hauls from Yorkshire pacers Ben Coad (3/41) and Benjamin Cliff (3/54) well.

In response, Yorkshire chased down their 244-run target in the penultimate over with three wickets to spare. Captain Shan Masood, James Wharton, and Dom Bess struck imperial half-centuries to guide their team past the finishing line.

Leicestershire and Surrey also squared off at Kibworth for another Group B game. Surrey formed a staggering 296/6 from 50 overs courtesy of Dom Sibley’s sublime century and crafty fifties from Ryan Patel and Ben Geddes. Chasing 297, Leicestershire had their response diminished at 279 to fall 17 runs short of their target.

Sol Budinger top-scored in the chase with a near run-a-ball 70. Then, Essex bowlers Cameron Steel (3/48), Conor McKerr (2/54) and James Taylor (2/39) scythed through Leicestershire’s batting line-up.

The only Group A bout and the third overall of the day between Middlesex and Durham at Radlett was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
