England’s Royal London One-Day Cup 2024 season kicked off on Wednesday, July 24, with five matches (three Group A fixtures and two Group B affairs) spread across five different English venues.

In the first match of the day, Derbyshire beat Northamptonshire by two wickets in the penultimate over of the match. After Zak Chappell picked up figures of 4/39 to restrict Northamptonshire to 235 in Northampton, he headlined Derbyshire’s chase with 94* (87 balls) after his team slipped to 79/7 at one stage.

In Worcester, hosts Worcestershire amassed 371/3 in a 48-over game on the back of centuries from openers Gareth Roderick (115 off 101) and Ed Pollock (180 off 138). Despite featuring a sizzling 37-ball 75 from captain Mark Stoneman, Middlesex's response fell flat at 188 to concede a 183-run win to the hosts. Harry Darley, Jack Home, and Tommy Sturgess picked up three wickets each in the Middlesex innings to headline Worcestershire’s big win.

Between Durham and Lancashire in Sedbergh, the former produced 344/4 in 50 overs, largely owing to a well-compiled 111 from Alex Lees. Netherlands imports Bas de Leede and Colin Ackermann also listed valiant half-centuries in the high-scoring innings. Later in the game, the two Dutch all-rounders picked up three wickets each to stop Lancashire at 287. While Josh Bohannon smacked an imperial 147, Lancashire fell short of their target by 57 runs.

In the fourth match of the day and the first from Group B, Leicestershire defeated Nottinghamshire in Leicester by 15 runs (DLS method). After making 369/6 in 50 overs with half-centuries from Sol Budinger, captain Lewis Hill, and Ajinkya Rahane; Leicestershire bowlers Tom Scriven (3/20) and Ben Mike (1/26) restricted Nottinghamshire to 89/6 from 14 overs in a rain-marred game.

At Chelmsford, hosts Essex charted 324/7 with fifties from Nick Browne and Charlie Allison. For Warwickshire, fast bowler Oliver Hannon-Dalby picked up three wickets at the expense of 69 runs in his 10-over spell. In response, Warwickshire captain and opener Ed Barnard smacked an unbeaten 173 from 140 balls to headline his team’s seven-wicket win with 2.2 overs to spare.
