Rohit Sharma's selflessness is the most appealing thing about him: Sanjay Manjrekar ahead of IND vs ENG T20 World Cup semifinal

Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar heaped praise on Indian captain Rohit Sharma for the approach with which he has been batting in the T20 World Cup so far. Rohit is the highest run-scorer for the Men in Blue in the tournament so far with 191 runs at a strike rate of almost 160.

While Rohit has had a reputation for playing big shots, Manjrekar feels the former's selflessness with the bat would be more appealing to fans. Speaking on ESPNCricinfo, here's what Sanjay Manjrekar had to say:

"What people and fans are realizing with Rohit Sharma that this is a guy who has obviously got the skills, how easily he plays the big shots against quality bowlers. But it is his selflessness that is the most appealing thing about him, that he doesn't worry about 'I am the big name player here, I must get a score' or 'I must get a fifty'."

Manjrekar lauded Rohit for trying to get the maximum result out of every delivery even when the risk factor with such shots was high.

Rohit Sharma was cleaned up by left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc, but not before the Indian captain could smash 92 runs off just 41 balls, including seven boundaries and eight sixes.

Sanjay Manjrekar wasn't surprised to see Rohit not slow down for his hundred as the latter had been pretty clear about 50s and 100s not being on his mind.

On this, Manjrekar stated:

"Even when he (Rohit) got out in the nineties, he wasn't going to be taking too much time to get to that hundred. He is the leader of this new thought in Indian cricket where he is just trying to score quickly."

India are set to face England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024, a repeat of the top-four clash played a couple of years ago when Jos Buttler and company got the better of Rohit and his men.
