MI New York (MINY) continued their torrid season in the ongoing 2024 Major League Cricket (MLC) with an appalling batting display against Washington Freedom (WAF) in Dallas on Tuesday, July 16. After winning the inaugural tournament last year, MINY have struggled to match last year's dream run in this edition.

However, the WAF drubbing was all down to their dismal batting. Chasing a formidable 183 for victory, MINY were reduced to an embarrassing 25/6 in the seventh over following the dismissal of skipper Kieron Pollard.

None of the top-six batters even crossed 5 as MINY were eventually bowled out for a paltry 88 in the 14th over to suffer a 94-run defeat.

The loss further dented their playoff hopes with only the lone win and a no result in five games, resulting in them being second to bottom on the points table with two games remaining.

Fans on X trolled MINY's horrific batting display in the WSF defeat with the following reactions:

The reactions continued for MINY's abysmal batting display with one fan saying:

"Game over for MINY.. On course to get bowled out under 100.. Used to pray for times like these."
"Not surprised MI New York are struggling with the bat this season.Pooran is the only high quality batter and they have put too much resources in international bowlers and all-rounders," said a fan.
"Mi new york batting team is finished this season," a fan tweeted.

"It (the batting) was atrocious" - Kieron Pollard

MINY captain Kieron Pollard slammed the batting in their crushing defeat against WAF. While MINY suffered a third consecutive defeat after winning their season opener, WSF continued their unbeaten run with a fourth win in five outings (one no-result).

At the post-match presentation, Pollard said:

"I think we were decent (with the ball). Travis got some runs but we contained them in the powerplay, they got away after that and we managed to pull it back towards the end. It (the batting) was atrocious. Second night in a row when the middle order is batting in the powerplay which is not acceptable. I take the responsibility for that as I have to get them (the batters) going."

Apart from Nicholas Pooran, none of the MINY batters average even 30 in the ongoing season. Skipper Pollard has endured a miserable time with the willow, averaging under seven at a strike rate of 48.78 in his four innings.

MINY will take on San Fransisco Unicorns in their virtual do-or-die encounter in Dallas on Thursday, July 18.
