Fans reacted as the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council recently released the retention rules for the franchises ahead of the mega auction before next season. The council also met with the franchise representatives last month to take their suggestions and views into account before finalizing the regulations.

The teams have been allowed six retentions, with a maximum of five capped and a maximum of two uncapped Indian players in them. There is also no limit on choosing overseas players in the capped category. Hence, franchises like Sunrisers Hyderabad have a great opportunity as they have the likes of Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, and Aiden Markram in their squad.

The impact player rule is also set to continue for the next cycle. The governing council also brought back an old rule, which deems Indian-capped players inactive in international cricket for five or more years as uncapped. Fans took note of the developments surrounding the IPL 2025 mega auction and expressed their reactions by sharing memes on social media platforms.

"You will get the chance to see MS Dhoni again"- Mohammad Kaif ahead of retentions of IPL 2025 mega auction

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif recently opined that MS Dhoni might turn up for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025. He felt that the IPL governing council's rule change regarding the uncapped players' retentions would make it easy for CSK to include Dhoni in the squad. Discussing the matter on Starsports, Kaif said:

"You will get the chance to see MS Dhoni again. He is fit, batting at a strike rate of 200, keeping well, and that is why I believe the rules will keep changing till he wants to play. If he wants to play in the IPL, he will play. He is such a big player, such a big match-winner, and has been a leader for CSK. I believe the rule has been changed rightly. I believe if he is fit and playing well, why not, change the rule and let him play."

He continued:

"Everyone knows the rule has been changed for Dhoni sahab, and why not, you will want to change the rule for a player like Dhoni. He himself says that he doesn't need the money. He always says that he will adjust himself based on whatever the management decides, even though he might be getting four crores as an uncapped player. It looks odd while saying because four crores isn't much for him."
