India's premier domestic tournament, the Ranji Trophy, is set to return for the 2024-25 season. The competition will start on Friday, October 11, 2024, running until early March next year.
The competition will feature 32 teams fighting for the ultimate prize in Indian domestic cricket. For the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, these 32 teams are divided into four groups - Elite Group A, Elite Group B, Elite Group C, and Elite Group D.
The 32 teams, representing different regions across India, are - Baroda, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Mumbai, Odisha, Services, Tripura, Andhra, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Hyderabad (India), Puducherry, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Vidarbha, Bengal, Bihar, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Jharkhand, Railways, Saurashtra, and Tamil Nadu.
The 2024-25 Ranji Trophy will see teams from each group playing seven matches each during the group stages. Four quarter-finals will be played across different venues beginning February 8, 2025. The semi-finals will begin on February 17, with the final scheduled on Wednesday, February 26.
Mumbai are the defending champions of the Ranji Trophy, having beaten Vidarbha in the final of the 2023-24 season.
Six teams will also participate in the Plate round of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. These six teams are - Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Goa, Manipur, Sikkim, and Mizoram.
The Plate round also begins on Friday, October 11, with the final to be played from January 23, 2025. The top two teams will be advanced to the Elite groups for the next Ranji Trophy season. Similarly, the bottom two teams from the four Elite Group matches will be relegated to the Plate Group for the next season.
Play on all match days of the 2024/25 Ranji Trophy (Elite and Plate) will begin at 9:30 AM IST.
