Two matches were played on the first day of Pondicherry T20 League 2024 on Friday, July 5. Bulls XI defeated Sharks XI in the first match by four wickets after chasing down a target of 157 runs in 19.5 overs. In the second match, Panthers XI defeated Lions XI by 12 runs after posting a total of 150 runs on the board.
Panthers XI and Bulls XI are naturally in the top two places in the points tally after winning their opening matches. They have a net run rate (NRR) of +0.600 and +0.267, respectively.
Sharks XI and Lions XI are in the next two places. They lost their respective first matches and have an NRR of -0.267 and -0.600, respectively.
Tigers XI and Tuskers XI are the two other teams in the tournament. They will play their first match on Saturday.
Ajay Rohera's knock in vain as Bulls XI triumph over Sharks XI
Bulls XI won the toss in the first game and elected to bowl against Sharks XI. Ajay Rohera provided a solid start to the Shakrs XI with his knock of 81 runs off 52 deliveries. Sharks XI finished their innings on 156 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Ravi Yadav and Rajakavi Rajgopal took two wickets each for the Bulls XI.
A collective team effort helped the Bulls XI reach the target of 157 runs in 19.5 overs with four wickets in hand. A total of five batters made 20-plus runs for the Bulls XI.
Panthers XI won the toss against Lions XI and elected to bat. Ayudh Sharma was the highest scorer and made 63 runs off 44 deliveries. His innings helped the team post a total of 150 runs on the board. J Manikandan was the pick of the bowlers for the Lions XI, taking three wickets for 27 runs in three overs.
Mohit Kale scored 56 runs off 37 deliveries for the Lions XI. However, he did not receive any support from the other end. The Lions XI were bundled out for 138 runs and lost the match by 12 runs. Sidak Singh and Karan Kannan took three wickets each for the Panthers XI.
