The Tuskers XI blanked Bulls XI by 59 runs courtesy a match-winning performance from P Akash in match seven of the 2024 Pondicherry T20 League . In the second match of the double-header day on July 8 at the Cricket Association Puducherry Siechem Ground, the Tigers XI got the better of Lions XI in a thrilling run-chase.

In the opening match of the day, Bulls XI captain Rajakavi Rajagopal won the toss and opted to field first. Tuskers XI ended up amassing a staggering total of 202/5 in response, with P Akash top-scoring through his unbeaten 94 from 58 balls. Kushwanth Silora clubbed three sixes at the death in his five-ball 22-run unbeaten cameo. Bulls XI bowlers Ravi Yadav (2/45) and Rajakavi Rajagopal (2/33) were the pick of the lot.

Chasing 203, Bulls XI could manage just 143-9 from 20 overs to fall 59 runs short of their target. None of their batters, barring wicketkeeper Sunil Bishnoi’s 40-ball 49, managed to scale the 30-run mark as their entire line-up crumbled in front of Tuskers XI bowlers S Parameeswaran (3/20), Vinay Murugesh (2/17), Mohamed Safeequddin (2/20) and Rahul Rajeev (2/20).

In match number eight of the tournament later in the day, Lions XI folded for just 103 in 19.2 overs, with captain Mohit Kale himself contributing with 36 valiant runs from his end. JR Sreeraj skittled four Lions wickets to finish with figures of 4/9, while Aditya Suresh More (2/20), Prasanna Hajare (1/21) and Nithiyananda R (1/14) claimed four wickets between them.

In response, Tigers XI lost eight wickets themselves to chase down their 104-run target in 12.5 overs. Opening batter S Sanjay Sudhaagar bashed 55 from 31 balls to lead his team’s run-scoring charge during his presence.

While Panthers XI batter Ayudh Sharma continue to lead the run-scoring charts of the Pondicherry T20 League 2024 season with 137 runs, Ritesh Gudge’s 13-ball 19 extended his tally to 135 to sit at number two on the leading batter’s list.

P Akash, who bludgeoned a 58-ball 94 against Bulls, jumped to number three with 127 runs from three innings this season. Mohit Kale’s 36-run knock also helped him scale the 100-run mark this year as he finds himself fourth on the table.

Anand Bais (108 runs), Ajay Rohera (84 runs) and Mohit Mittan (83 runs) occupy the next three slots respectively; while Tigers XI batters Nadeem Khan and Paras Ratnaparkhe (66 runs each) jumped to number eight and nine owing to their cameos against Lions. Tuskers’ S Parameeswaran, with 63 runs, sits at number 10 to round up the top-10 list.

Bulls XI bowlers Rajakavi Rajagopal and Ravi Yadav took two wickets each against Tuskers to extend their season’s tally to seven and six scalps respectively. Rahul Rajeev (six wickets) also bagged two against Bulls to comfortably sit at number three on the leading wicket-takers charts.

S Parameeswaran (Tuskers), JR Sreeraj (Tigers), Nithiyananda R (Tigers) and J Manikandan (Lions) with four wickets each occupy the next four slots; while Mohit Mittan, Gurvinder Singh and Karan Kannan round-up the top 10 with three wickets apiece.
