“Played bazball against originators of it!” - Fans react as Joshua Da Silva and Shamar Joseph's 71-run partnership helps West Indies take 41-run lead

On Saturday, July 20 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, the West Indies took a 41-run lead on Day 3 of the second Test match against England thanks to a brilliant innings from keeper-battler Joshua Da Silva and a cameo from Shamar Joseph.

The Caribbean team were still behind by 30 runs, when they lost their ninth wicket. Then, Da Silva and Joseph broke the shackles and stitched a 71-run partnership for the last wickets off 78 balls as the West Indies finished their first innings at 457 runs in 111.5 overs.

Joshua missed a well-deserved century as he remained unbeaten on 82 off 122 balls, hitting 10 fours and three sixes in his innings. Mark Wood got the final wicket in the form of Shamar Joseph, who scored 33 runs off 27 balls before departing, hitting five fours and two maximums as the West Indies took a 41-run lead in the first inning.

Here’s how fans reacted as Kraigg Braithwaite’s side took a 41-run lead after a brilliant 71-run partnership for the last wicket.

Meanwhile, another fan noted that it was a historic comeback for the West Indies after losing the first Test by an innings and 114 runs.

Chris Woakes was the pick of the bowlers for England, taking four wickets.


Ben Duckett leads the way for England in the second innings

A brilliant century from Kavem Hodge (120) and pivotal contributions from Alick Athanaze (82) and Joshua Da Silva (82*) helped the West Indies take a 41-run lead in the first inning.

In response, Zak Crawley got run-out on 3, but since then England has played decent cricket. At the Tea break, England were at 116/1 after 22 overs, leading by 75 runs. Ben Duckett (61* off 68) and Ollie Pope (48* off 62) were on the crease for the hosts.
