Former India U19 World Cup-winning skipper Unmukt Chand met Sachin Tendulkar in Dallas in the United States of America (USA) on Tuesday, October 15. The 31-year-old shared a picture from his meeting with the legendary batter as the fans clicked the duo.

Chand, who led India to U19 World Cup glory in 2012, retired from Indian cricket in 2021. The Delhi-born player plays league cricket in the USA. However, USA selectors ignored him for the recently concluded 2024 T20 World Cup.

Sharing a picture with Tendulkar, Chand wrote on X:

“’God in Dallas Today,’ Always surreal feeling meeting you sir.”

Take a look:

Unmukt Chand has amassed 3,379 runs in 67 first-class games for Delhi with the aid of eight tons and 16 half-centuries. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 4,505 runs in 120 matches, including seven centuries and 32 fifties. In T20s, he has 1,795 runs in 90 games at a strike rate of 115.28, hitting three tons and seven half-centuries.

“I wasn’t getting enough opportunities to play in India” – Unmukt Chand

Unmukt Chand, in a 2021 interview, said that the lack of opportunities in India forced him to move away from the country. He told ESPNcricinfo:

“I wasn't going to give up on cricket completely. If I wasn't getting enough opportunities to play in India, where were the next four or five crucial years of my career going to go? I still get emotional imagining that I will never get to play for India again. But I have made some special memories while playing in India."
"Playing the IPL was a massive experience for me, but I wasn't very lucky during my stint in it.” he added.

Unmukt Chand has 300 runs in 21 IPL games, including a solitary half-century. He was part of Delhi Daredevils from 2011 to 2013 before representing Rajasthan Royals in 2014. He played his last two seasons for Mumbai Indians from 2015 to 2016.

Chand was last seen in the MAX60 Caribbean league, where he managed just 35 runs in five innings. Before that, he managed 127 runs in seven innings at Global T20 Canada.
