Petition lodged against Waqar Younis' appointment as advisor to PCB chairman

Dormer fast bowler Waqar Younis being appointed as the advisor to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has invited legal challenges. A citizen named Mashkoor Hussain has lodged a petition in the Lahore High Court, questioning the legitimacy of the appointment.

An attorney named Nadeem Sarwar is representing the case as the petition cites that the procedure did not follow the standard protocols for Younis' appointment. The petition also mentions the appointments of Gary Kirsten as the Pakistan men's team's white-ball coach and Jason Gillespie as the red-ball coach for being irregular in their processes.

The central argument regarding the former captain being roped in is unlawful because the PCB didn't advertise for the position in newspapers. According to Mashkoor Hussain, the 52-year-old's appointment has to be nullified due to the failure to abide by the processes.

Waqar Younis shares his insights after becoming the advisor

During a recent press conference, the 87-Test veteran addressed the PCB's move to introduce three new domestic tournaments. He said they will appoint five renowned cricketers to head the teams - Dolphins, Lions, Panthers, Stallions, and Wolves.

As quoted by Cricket Pakistan, Younis stated:

"We will appoint five legends to head the teams and I am already in touch with some of them. Cricket's current state is clear: improvements are necessary. While stadiums are important, our focus should be on enhancing the quality of play.

"Involving renowned cricketers and legends in the process is crucial. The Chairman's idea to involve these figures is excellent, and we've discussed it with some legends. We'll soon announce the names of those who will help advance the sport."

Pakistan's men's side will take on Bangladesh in a Test series, which begins on August 21. The PCB also named their squads on Tuesday, August 7, with Shan Masood captaining the side and Saud Shakeel serving as his deputy.
