Team India continued their dominance in the first Test against Bangladesh with another brilliant display on Day 3 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Indian side set a mammoth target of 515 runs and then reduced the opposition to 158/4 before stumps on Saturday (September 21).

Overnight batters Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill commenced the day with 81/3 on the board. The duo started watchfully but shifted gears swiftly after settling in to accumulate runs at a healthy rate. Bangladesh bowlers had no answers against the two batters, who looked in imperious touch.

In his first Test in almost two years, Pant hit his signature shots and brought up his sixth century in the second session. Gill also reached the milestone soon after with a traditional approach. After Rishabh perished in search of quick runs for a looming declaration, KL Rahul came in and hit some delightful boundaries to keep Gill company.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma declared the innings at 287/4 with around one hour left before the tea break. In a steep chase, Bangladesh openers Zakir Hasan (33) and Shadman Islam (35) came in with positive intent. They scored 56 runs without losing a wicket in 13 overs before the conclusion of the second session.

However, they lost their way in the final session. Ravichandran Ashwin (3/63) and Jasprit Bumrah (1/18) combined to reduce the visitors to 158/4 before bad light forced the officials to call off the action. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (51*) and Shakib Al Hasan (5*) remained at the crease at stumps.

The engaging Day 3 action of the opening Test between India and Bangladesh enthralled the fans, who expressed their reactions by sharing hilarious memes on social media platforms.

"They will be all out before lunch"- Basit Ali predicts Bangladesh's future in 1st Test vs India in Chennai

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali recently predicted that Bangladesh batters might not survive past lunch on Day 4 of the first Test against India. He was impressed with the fightback of the Bangla batters in the second innings on Saturday. He pointed out captain Najmul Hossain Shanto's batting form as a plus point for them.

Reviewing the day's play in a video on his YouTube channel 'Basit Ali,' he said:

"I really like the way the Bangladeshi batters played today. They played positively. Shanto played very well. Shanto's batting has been the biggest plus point for Bangladesh in this Test. It is my wish to see him score a hundred here."

Ali continued:

"It will be good for Bangladesh is they manage to reach 350 runs. However, I don't think it will happen. They will be all out before lunch. We got to know the difference. This is the same Bangladesh played against Pakistan, where it seemed as if Pakistan were completely on the back foot. This is the same Bangladesh that whitewashed Pakistan. The difference is of mindset, thinking, and class."
