"No blue jersey, no party" - Fans react as Travis Head departs for two-ball duck in IPL 2024 Qualifier 1

IPL
Travis Head departed for duck in consecutive IPL matches.

Travis Head failed to deliver for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Qualifier 1 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. The left-hander departed for a two-ball duck, cleaned up by the Knight Riders' pace spearhead and his Aussie teammate Mitchell Starc.

The dismissal came off the second ball of the Sunrisers' innings. Starc bowled a full-length ball with a hint of late outward movement around off. It crashed onto the stumps.

Head had previously departed for a golden duck against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their last league game. The left-hander, however, is the leading run-getter for SRH in IPL 2024, scoring 533 runs in 13 innings, including one century and four 50s.

Fans on X (formerly Twitter) were disappointed with Travis Head's failure in the IPL 2024 playoff match. One user shared a meme that read:

KKR send back Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma early vs SRH in IPL 2024 Qualifier 1

A clinical bowling performance from Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora helped KKR dismiss in-form SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma cheaply on Tuesday. Abhishek departed for three runs off four balls, caught by Andre Russell at cover.

At the time of writing, the Sunrisers were 38/2 after 4.2 overs, with Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Reddy at the crease.

The winner of KKR and SRH will qualify for the IPL 2024 final. The losing team will play Qualifier 2 against the winner of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). RCB and RR will lock horns in Eliminator 2 on Wednesday.

Table-toppers Knight Riders ended up with 20 points despite their last two league games against Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan washed out due to rain. Meanwhile, the Sunrisers finished second with 17 points.
