United Arab Emirates Women secured a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Namibia Women in the first match of the tri-series at Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek.

United Arab Emirates, with a comprehensive seven-wicket win, are at pole position with two points at an NRR of 3.729. Zimbabwe are second without having played a game yet.

Meanwhile, Namibia hold the wooden spoon with a loss, with an NRR of -3.729. They will look to take up a better spot when they take on their next opponents in the tri-series.


Theertha Satish shines for UAE Women

After losing the toss, Namibia were tasked to bat first. Captain Sune Wittmann started off on a blazing note with 24 runs, scoring three boundaries at a strike rate of 75. However, the other opening batter, Yasmeen Khan, could score only 10 off eight with one four and a six.

No. 3 batter Edelle Van Zyl failed to create an impact, scoring two off 11. Middle-order batters Wilka Mwatile (11), Arrasta Diegaardt (11) and Mezerly Gorases (11) also failed to live up to expectations.

At the death, Syliva Shihepo smacked 19 off 18 with three fours, while Mekelaye Mwatile scored six off two balls with one four. Eventually, Namibia racked up a below-par total of 102-6 in their 20 overs.

Indhuja Nandakumar scalped two wickets while Heena Hotchandani, Archara Supriya, Kavisha Egodage and Vaishnave Mahesh picked up a wicket each for the UAE.

In response, UAE skipper Esha Rohit could score only 11 off 10 with a four and a six. However, keeper-batter Theertha Satish stood tall, scoring 45* off 35 with seven fours.

She received decent support from No. 3 batter Rinitha Rajith, scoring 27 off 11 with four fours and one six. Kavisha Egodage failed to live up to expectations, scoring only two off six, finishing off the game in 11.4 overs with seven wickets in hand.

Heena Hotchandani also remained at the crease to take her side over the line, scoring 10 off nine with one four. Mekelaye Mwatile pocketed two wickets, while Saima Tuadeleni scalped one, but their efforts eventually went in vain.
