MI New York (MINY) and Seattle Orcas (SEO) squared off in the inaugural Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024 match on Friday, July 5. The Texas Super Kings (TSK) and Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) locked horns next.
MI New York opted to field first and bowled Orcas out for just 108 in 19.1 overs. Shubham Ranjane was the top scorer for the Orcas with 35 (31). Harmeet Singh (20) and Aaron Jones (12) made handy contributions while the rest, including Heinrich Klaasen, were dismissed for single-digit scores.
Trent Boult and Rashid Khan led New York's bowling department with three wickets each while skipper Kieron Pollard took two wickets. Anrich Nortje and Ehsan Adil picked up one scalp each.
In reply, MI chased the target in 14.2 overs with six wickets in hand. Nicholas Pooran led the scoring with an unbeaten 62 off 37. Cameron Gannon took a couple of wickets for Seattle while Nandre Burger and Zaman Khan claimed one apiece.
Los Angeles Knight Riders, meanwhile, batted first in the second game and posted a subpar total of 162 for seven wickets. They lost their openers Jason Roy and skipper Sunil Narine inside the powerplay. However, Unmukt Chand scored 68 off 45, with Nitish Kumar’s 26 off 17 and Corne Dry’s quick cameo of 12 (4) being the other major contributions.
In reply, Devon Conway scored a half-century off 39 balls and gave Texas Super Kings a perfect start. However, he wasn’t fully backed by the rest of the batting lineup as they fell short of the target by 12 runs. Ali Khan led the Knight Riders' bowling unit with a four-fer while Spencer Johnson took two wickets. Shakib Al Hasan and Narine picked up one scalp each.

Ranked third, Devon Conway of Texas Super Kings hit a half-century against LAKR. He scored 53 off 39 balls in a knock studded with six boundaries.
