Washington Freedom faced Texas Super Kings in the fifth match of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024 on Monday, July 8, at Church Street Park in Morrisville. The match ended in a no result due to rain.

Washington Freedom jumped into first place from third. They have won one out of two matches and have a Net Run Rate of +0.522. San Francisco Unicorns moved down to second place having recorded a win in their first outing of the season. They have a Net Run Rate of +2.576.

MI New York have moved down to third place from second with a win and a loss from their two games. They have a Net Run Rate of 1.472. Los Angeles Knight Riders remain in fourth position and have a Net Run Rate of -0.768. They too have won and lost a match each.

Texas Super Kings and Seattle Orcas still occupy the last two positions. The Super Kings lost their first game and the second one ended in a no result, while the Orcas lost their first match of MLC 2024. They have a Net Run Rate of -0.600 and -2.344, respectively.


Washington Freedom and Texas Super Kings share points after rain interruption in MLC 2024

Washington Freedom won the toss in the fifth match of MLC 2024 and elected to bowl against Texas Super Kings. Devon Conway and Faf du Plessis added 109 runs for the first wicket before Conway was dismissed after scoring 39 off 26 deliveries. Aaron Hardie was the next to depart for two off five deliveries.

Du Plessis continued to dominate and added 62 runs for the third wicket with Marcus Stoinis. Stoinis made 29 off 18 deliveries, while Du Plessis scored a brilliant 100 off 58. He became only the third batter to score a century in Major League Cricket and the first this season.

His innings helped the Super Kings post a total of 203/5 in 20 overs. Saurabh Netravalkar was the pick of the bowlers for Washington, with figures of 2/33 in four overs.

In reply, Travis Head and Steven Smith added 62 runs for the first wicket in four overs before rain put an end to the contest. Head made 32 off 12 deliveries, while Smith scored 26 off 13.
