Washington Freedom defeated Seattle Orcas in the eighth match of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024 by five wickets. They chased down the 125-run target in 18.2 overs. Lockie Ferguson took four wickets for 26 runs in four overs and won the Player of the Match award.

Washington Freedom have jumped to first place from second and have won two out of three games. They have a net run rate (NRR) of +0.675. Texas Super Kings have moved to second position from first and have won one out of three games. They have an NRR of +1.242.

MI New York are still third, having won and lost one game each. They have an NRR of 1.472. Los Angeles Knight Riders are still in fourth place and have a net run rate of -0.542. They have won one out of three games so far.

San Francisco Unicorns are still in fifth position and have won one out of two matches. They have an NRR of -0.631. Seattle Orcas are still in sixth place and have won one out of three games. They have an NRR of -1.007.


Lockie Ferguson's four-wicket haul propels Washington Freedom to victory

Washington Freedom won the toss and elected to bowl against Seattle Orcas. Seattle lost three wickets for just 44 runs. Heinrich Klaasen scored 51 runs off 30 deliveries. No other batter crossed the 25-run mark for Seattle.

They were bundled out for 124 runs in 19.4 overs. Lockie Ferguson was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets for 26 runs in four overs. It is his best bowling figure in MLC. Saurabh Netravalkar picked three wickets for 18 runs in 3.4 overs.

Washington lost their first wicket without opening their account on the second delivery of their innings. They made 47 runs in the powerplay for the loss of three wickets. The team lost two more wickets and it looked like Washington might struggle.

Lahiru Milantha and Obus Pienaar added 63 runs for the sixth wicket. They both scored 30-plus runs each and remained unbeaten. Washington reached the target of 125 runs in 18.2 overs and won the match by five wickets. Nandre Burger was the pick of the bowlers for Seattle and took two wickets for 27 runs in four overs.
