Seattle Orcas took on San Francisco Unicorns in Match 13 of the 2024 Major League Cricket season at the Church Street Park in Morrisville on July 15.
Winning the toss and electing to field first, Orcas spinner Imad Wasim removed both San Francisco Unicorns openers to secure figures of 2/28 from four overs.
No. 3 batter Matthew Short held the innings together for the Unicorns by scraping up 56 runs from 32 balls while Orcas’ Cameron Gannon struck thrice with the ball in the backend. The Unicorns eventually listed a competitive 165/7 by the end of their innings.
Chasing 166, opener Shehan Jayasuriya smacked a 37-ball 54 before Ryan Rickelton’s clean-up job by Liam Plunkett pummeled the Orcas from 76/0 to 98/5 in a space of just five overs. Plunkett claimed two more wickets in the innings to finish with 3/26, and the speedster received much assistance from fellow wicket-takers Matthew Short, Corey Anderson and Pat Cummins.
The collective efforts of the San Francisco Unicorns bowlers ensured the Orcas fell 23 runs short of their target.
MLC 2024 Most Runs List
Texas Super Kings openers Faf du Plessis and Devon Conway continue to lead the MLC 2024 run-scoring charts with 209 and 164 runs respectively. San Francisco Unicorns middle-order star Matthew Short jumped to number three in the race after he scored a lively 32-ball 56 against Seattle Orcas.
Ryan Rickelton clubbed 29 to extend his run-tally to 136 runs to be ranked fourth, while Steve Smith (126 runs), Jason Roy (109 runs) and Nicholas Pooran (107 runs) slipped to number five, six and seven respectively. Finn Allen, also with 107 runs, is ranked eighth.
Unmukt Chand and Travis Head both take the final two slots on the top-10 standings after raking in 87 runs each so far in the tournament.
MLC 2024 Most Wickets List
Washington Freedom fast bowler Saurabh Netravalkar, with 12 wickets, remains the MLC 2024 only bowler to have claimed either 10 or more wickets so far in the tournament. Seattle Orcas’ Cameron Gannon, after seizing figures of 3/26 on July 16, joined second-placed Spencer Johnson and third-placed Lockie Ferguson to be placed at number four on the top-10 standings.
Marcus Stoinis and Zia-ul-Haq, with six wickets each, while Mohammad Mohsin and Trent Boult with five wickets apiece helped them secure the next four slots on the top-10 ladder.
Liam Plunkett jumped into the ninth position after his three-wicket spell against the Seattle Orcas. Rashid Khan, meanwhile, slipped to No. 10 after collecting four wickets from three innings so far in the tournament.
