The Marsh One-Day Cup 2024-25 kicked off on September 22 and will run until March 1. Although the tournament will consist of only 22 games, Australia’s premier first-class tournament Sheffield Shield overlaps with its schedule, resulting in it ending next year.
Switching back to the Marsh One-Day Cup, the first leg of the six-team competition was played until September 27. Jack Edwards, Ashton Turner, Jordan Silk, Will Sutherland, Nathan McSweeney, and Mitchell Swepson lead New South Wales, Western Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, South Australia, and Queensland, respectively.
So far, Victoria have registered wins in both games and are at the top of the points table. Meanwhile, New South Wales and South Australia have won one game each and take the subsequent positions. The other three teams are yet to open their accounts in the tournament. Two games were washed out due to rain.
Josh Philippe (139), Ashton Turner (94), and Matt Renshaw (89) are the top three run-scorers after the completion of the first leg of the Marsh One-Day Cup 2024-25. Sam Elliot (9), Bryce Jackson (6), and Nathan McAndrew (5) are the top three bowlers.
The tournament's next game (Match 7) will take place on Sunday, October 13, between Western Australia and Queensland in Perth from 7:30 AM IST. Then, only a handful of games will be played until December before the Big Bash League (BBL) resumes. Each team will play seven games in the league stage.
After the completion of league-stage games on February 23, the top two teams will battle it out in the final on March 1, 2025. It will be interesting to see if Western Australia can secure back-to-back titles after they defeated South Australia by 181 runs last year.
