The Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament 2024 resumed on a rain-marred Tuesday, July 30, after a two-day break with eight matches across Sri Lanka.

The first Group A match of the day turned out to be a rain-soaked affair between Sinhalese Sports Club and Nondescripts Cricket Club. Sinhalese scored 283/3 from 46 overs courtesy of half-centuries from Shevon Daniel and Krishan Sanjula before rains interrupted play in Colombo. The match between Chilaw CC and Bloomfield was also called off owing to rains after the former charted 144/9 from 32 overs.

Negombo Cricket Club thumped Ragama Cricket Club in a 45-over match by 115 runs despite making just 200/7 upfront. At the SLAOCIC Stadium, Ace Capital Cricket Club (171/9) defeated Panadura Sports Club (92 all out) by 79 runs in a 43-over game.

In Group B, Colts Cricket Club’s 34-over match against Moors Sports Club was also called off owing to rains in Colombo (Colts) after the hosts made 198/7. In the city’s SSC Stadium, Pavan Rathnayake clubbed a 71-ball hundred to take Colombo Cricket Club to 227/4 in 34 overs after their match against Nugegoda SWC was called off owing to bad weather.

The match between Police Sports Club and Badureliya Sports Club was abandoned without a ball being bowled in Katunayake, while Burgher (70/4) routed Kurunegala (67 all out) by six wickets in a 31-over affair in Kurunegala.

Nishan Madushka tops the run-scoring list of the Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament 2024 season with 336 runs from seven innings. J Perera from Moors with 308 runs is the only other batter to have tallied over 300 runs so far in the competition.

Yashodha Lanka with 258 runs and Ron Chandraguptha with 256 runs are the next two highest run-getters of the season, and they are followed by Lahiru Udara with 244 runs at an average of nearly 49.

Krishan Sanjula (221 runs), Shevon Daniel (216 runs), Ravindu Rasantha (214 runs), Thanuka Dabare (213 runs) and Sandun Weerakkody (211 runs) occupy the bottom half of the top-10 batters list.

Left-arm spinner Chaturanga de Silva has seized 13 wickets to lead the bowling charts of the Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament 2024 season as of Tuesday, July 30. Also with 13 wickets each, Wanuja Sahan, Lasith Embuldeniya and Thanuka Dabare occupy the next three slots in the top-10 list for bowlers. Kavika Dilshan with 12 wickets to his name from four innings is ranked fifth on the table.

Nishan Peiris, Tillakaratne Sampath, and Yohan Maddege have all collected 11 wickets each to be ranked sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively, in terms of the highest wicket-takers of the season. Pasindu Ushettige and Alankara Asanka Silva occupy the final two slots on the table with 10 wickets each to their seasonal tally.
