Bengaluru Blasters defeated Gulbarga Mystics in the first match of the Maharaja Trophy T20 2024 by nine wickets on Thursday, August 15. They chased down the target of 117 runs in 11.2 overs. Mysore Warriors won the second match against Shivamogga Lions by seven runs. The match was reduced to nine overs due to rain.

Bengaluru Blasters and Mysore Warriors finished the first day of the tournament in the top two places. They have a Net Run Rate of +4.524 and +0.778, respectively.

Shivamogga Lions and Gulbarga Mystics occupied the next two places with a Net Run Rate of -0.778 and -4.524, respectively. Hubli Tigers and Mangalore Dragons are yet to play their first match of the season.


Bengaluru Blasters’ LR Chethan and Mayank Agarwal seal a comfortable win

Bengaluru Blasters elected to bowl after winning the toss against Gulbarga Mystics. The Mystics were bundled out for just 116 runs in 16.4 overs. No batter managed to cross the 20-run mark. Aditya Goyal was the pick of the bowlers for the Blasters and took three wickets for 43 runs in four overs. Lavish Kaushal, Naveen MG, and Mohsin Khan picked two wickets each.

LR Chethan and Mayank Agarwal added 101 runs for the first wicket. Chethan scored 53 runs off 34 deliveries before getting dismissed. Agarwal remained unbeaten on 47 runs off 29 deliveries. The Blasters won the match by nine wickets.

In the second match, Shivamogga Lions won the toss against Mysore Warriors and elected to bowl. The Warriors didn’t have a decent start and lost wickets in succession. Manoj Bhandage came out to bat in the ninth place and remained unbeaten on 42 runs off 16 deliveries. His innings helped the Warriors reach a total of 159 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Hardik Raj, Pradeep T, and Avinash D took two wickets each.

The second innings was reduced to nine overs per side due to rain and the Lions got a target of 88 runs. The Lions lost their first wicket for a duck. Abhinav Manohar remained unbeaten on 52 runs off 29 deliveries. No other batter managed to make more than 15 runs for the team.

The Lions scored 80 runs for the loss of five wickets in nine overs and lost the match by seven runs. Jagadeesha Suchith was the pick of the bowlers for the Warriors and took two wickets for 15 runs in two overs.
