The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium hosted two games of the Maharaja Trophy T20 2024 on Monday (August 19). Bengaluru Blasters secured a five-wicket victory over Hubli Tigers, while Mysuru Warriors prevailed handsomely over Mangalore Dragons.

In the first game, the Blasters were off to a bad start against the Tigers, losing three wickets inside the powerplay overs. However, LR Chethan (48) and Shubhang Hegde (52*) contributed to keep the team in good stead. The lower middle-order couldn’t contribute enough, as they were bundled out for 142. Vidwath Kaverappa and Manvanth Kumar picked three wickets each for the Tigers.

In response, Thippa Reddy (47) and Krishnan Shrijith (41) stitched an 81-run stand for the second wicket to steer the team on a comfortable note. The rest of the batting did just fine to seal the chase under 19 overs. Kranthi Kumar impressed by taking three wickets for the Blasters.

The second game saw the Warriors batting first against the Dragons. Although they lost two quick wickets, they were set up beautifully by skipper Karun Nair, who smashed 124* off 48 balls, with 13 fours and nine sixes. Along with him, Manoj Bhandage (31* off 14) remained unbeaten to post a mammoth total of 226. Abhilash Shetty was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/27.

After that, the Dragons lost two early wickets but were supported well by Nikin Jose (32) and Krishnamurthy Siddharth (50). However, the rest of the batting unit faltered and they could manage only 138/7 in 14 overs (revised target of 166 due to rain). Codanda Ajit Karthik and Jagadeesha Sucith bagged two wickets each.
