On Saturday, July 13, 2024, Jaffna Kings and Kandy Falcons met in the 15th match of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The Kings are currently standing at the top of the LPL 2024 Points table with wins in five out of seven games so far.

Similarly, Galle Marvels are ranked second, having won four out of six matches. They won their fourth game against the Falcons in the previous match by eight wickets.

Colombo Strikers and Dambulla Sixers are having a similar season. The two teams have won two and lost three out of their five games. Strikers lost Jaffna in their last game by seven wickets while Sixers defeated Marvels by 25 runs.

The Strikers are ranked third in the table with a net run rate of +0.067 while the Sixers are placed below them with a negative NRR of -0.171.

Kandy Falcons are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table with just four points in seven games with an NRR of -0.403.


Jason Behrendoff, Charith Asalanka, and Azmatullah Omarzai handed Jaffna a fifth win

The match between Jaffna Kings and Kandy Falcons was reduced to seven-over-a-side due to rain.

Dinesh Chandimal’s 21st Mohammad Haris 30 helped the Falcons post a 79-run target for the loss of five wickets. Jason Behrendoff picked up a three-wicket haul for the Jaffna Kings while Asitha Fernando and Azmatullah Omarzai picked up one wicket each.

In reply, Jaffna lost three wickets inside three overs out of which Angelo Matthews picked up two. However, Avishka Fernando scored 16 off seven with skipper Charith Asalanka's outstanding nine-ball 26, including four sixes. Later, Omarzai smashed a notable 24 off six with three sixes and one four and helped Jaffna cruise a comfortable four-wicket win.

Wanindu Hasaranga chipped in two wickets for the Falcons while Dasun Shanaka picked up one. Andre Fletcher conceded 13 runs in five balls.
