Kandy Falcons defeated Dambulla Sixers in the 18th match of Lanka Premier League 2024 by 54 runs. The Falcons had posted a total of 222 runs for the loss of four wickets. Wanindu Hasaranga took four wickets for 35 runs in four overs and scored 25 runs off 12 deliveries to win the Player of the Match award.

In the 19th match, Galle Marvels were bowled out for 138 runs in 19.5 overs. Colombo Strikers chased down the target with ease, winning the match by seven wickets with 10 balls remaining.

Despite the loss, Galle Marvels are still in first place and have won five out of eight matches. They have a Net Run Rate of -0.059. Jaffna Kings are still in second position and have a Net Run Rate of -0.392. They have won five out of eight matches as well.

Colombo Strikers are still in third place and have won four out of seven matches. They have a Net Run Rate of +0.919. Kandy Falcons have moved to fourth place from fifth and have won three out of eight matches. They have a Net Run Rate of +0.033. Dambulla Sixers slipped to fifth position from fourth with a Net Run Rate of -0.513 and have won two out of seven matches.


Kandy Falcons soar to victory with powerful batting and Wanindu Hasaranga's heroics

Dambulla Sixers elected to field after winning the toss against Kandy Falcons. Andre Fletcher and Kamindu Mendis scored a half-century each for the Falcons. Fletcher made 60 runs off 34 deliveries, while Mendis remained unbeaten on 51 runs off 24 deliveries. Angelo Mathews also had a great outing with the bat and scored 44 runs off 23 deliveries.

Their collective efforts helped the Falcons post a total of 222 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Dushan Hemantha was the most successful bowler for the Sixers and took three wickets for 14 runs in four overs.

The Sixers lost wickets at regular intervals, but Kusal Perera held on to one end for 14.5 overs. He was dismissed after scoring 74 runs off 40 deliveries. No other batter managed to cross the 25-run mark for the Sixers.

The Sixers posted 168 runs for the loss of nine wickets and lost the match by 54 runs. Wanindu Hasaranga bowled an exceptional spell of four for 35 in four overs. Dasun Shanaka took three wickets for 29 runs in four overs. Hasaranga won the Player of the Match award for his bowling performance and 25-run cameo.

Colombo Strikers won the toss and elected to bowl against Galle Marvels. The Marvels lost their first two wickets for 25 runs and the team managed just 37 runs in the powerplay. Tim Seifert scored 44 runs off 38 deliveries, while Bhanuka Rajapaksa made 35 runs off 15 deliveries as the Marvels were bundled out for 138 runs in 19.5 overs. Matheesha Pathirana was the pick of the bowlers and took four wickets for 20 runs in 3.5 overs. Dunith Wellalage and Shadab Khan took two wickets each.

The Strikers lost their first wicket for 14 runs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Muhammad Waseem added 46 runs for the second wicket. Waseem made 50 runs off 44 deliveries. Glenn Phillips and Sadeera Samarawickrama had a partnership of 33 runs for the fourth wicket.

The Strikers chased down the target of 139 runs in 18.2 overs with seven wickets in hand. Pathirana won the Player of the Match award for his bowling performance.
