New Zealand speedster Lockie Ferguson achieved an unthinkable feat during the Group C 2024 T20 World Cup clash against Papua New Guinea (PNG). The right-arm pacer went through his entire quota of four overs without conceding a run, thus ending with four maidens in Trinidad on Monday, June 17.

The start of the contest was delayed due to rain, but the proceedings began without any overs being lost. Although the Blackcaps have already been eliminated from the tournament, following their losses to Afghanistan and the West Indies, they looked determined to finish their campaign off in style.

Ferguson was asked to bowl the fifth over of the innings and struck off his very first delivery. He dismissed opposition skipper Assad Vala as Daryl Mitchell took a catch at wide slip. The dot balls continued to flow as Ferguson followed up with another maiden, right after the powerplay.

Lockie Ferguson dismissed Charles Amini in his third over following a review by New Zealand. The Papua New Guinea batters struggled throughout as the right-arm pacer bowled yet another maiden. The unprecedented accomplishment was in sight after Ferguson picked up his third wicket off the second delivery off the final over as Chad Soper chopped one back onto the stumps.

The new batter Kiplin Doriga managed to extract some leg byes, but Ferguson's figures remained intact as he finished with 4-4-0-3.

Lockie Ferguson's spell played a huge role in restricting Papua New Guinea to a low score. Papua New Guinea were eventually bundled out for 78 runs in 19.4 overs.

Lockie Ferguson becomes the second bowler after Saad Bin Zafar to bowl four maidens in a T20I

Canada skipper Saad Bin Zafar was the first bowler to go an entire spell without conceding a single run. He achieved the feat during the 2021 Americas Region Qualifier clash against Panama in Coolidge.

He finished with figures of 0-2 off four overs, as Canada ended up winning the match by 208 runs.
