Lanka Premier League 2024 Points Table: Updated Standings Galle Marvels vs Colombo Strikers, Match 5

The third day of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) witnessed a double-clash blockbuster between Dambulla Sixers and Jaffna Kings in the fourth match on Wednesday, July 3. In the other match, the Galle Marvels took upon the Colombo Strikers. Both the encounters were played in the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele.

Jaffna Kings won the match by four wickets chasing 191 against Dambulla Sixers. On the other hand, Galle Marvels outclassed the Colombo Strikers winning the game by seven runs.

Galle Marvels climb up to clinch the top position winning two of their two games and have a Net Run Rate of +0.225. Colombo Strikers take the second position after their loss and have a Net Run Rate of +1.100. Jaffna Kings stay in the third position after their win earlier today and have an NRR of +0.100. Kandy Falcons slip further and have a Net Run Rate of -0.586. Dambulla Sixers end the table losing both their games and have an NRR of -0.929.

Kusal Perera’s knock of 102 runs in vain as Sixers lose to Kings; Shadab Khan claims four-fer but in vain

On the first encounter of the day, Jaffna Kings won the toss and pushed Dambulla Sixers to bat first. The Sixers batted exceptionally well, reaching 191/2 with Kusal Perera scoring the first hundred of the season. He played a 52-ball 102-run knock, smashing 10 boundaries and five sixes. Support came from Nuwaindu Fernando (40 off 35) and a cameo of 33 from 23 balls from Mark Champman.

In response, Jaffna Kings kept up the spirit and wickets kept falling at regular intervals losing their hopes. However, Avishka Fernando and Charith Asalanka guided them to victory with their efforts of 80 and 50 runs, respectively. Fabian Allen finished the game with a last ball smashing a six helping Jaffna Kings win their first game win of LPL 2024.

In the second match, Colombo Strikers won the toss and elected to bowl first. Galle Marvels played an incredible inning, scoring 179 runs and losing all 10 wickets. Niroshan Dickwella played a magnificent knock, scoring a 50 from 18 balls, with assistance coming from Isuru Udana (52 off 34), scoring his first fifty of LPL. Shadab Khan, in response, ended with figures 4/21, and Binura Fernando ended with 3/22.

In reply, Colombo Strikers scored 57, losing three wickets in the powerplay phase, but wickets kept falling at regular intervals that cost the Strikers the game. Maheesh Theekshana was the standout bowler, claiming two wickets for just 20 runs. Wickets from Isuru Udana (2/34) and Sahan Arachchige (2/21) supported the Marvels to clinch victory over the Strikers.
