A total of seven games were played in the KFC T20 Max Competition 2024 on Saturday, August 31. This also saw teams rise or fall in the points table.

Interestingly, Sandgate-Redcliffe won both their games and are now the top team in the competition with five wins in six matches at a net run rate of +1.436. Northern Suburbs maintained their second position in the table with four victories in six appearances. Meanwhile, Redlands lost both of their matches on Saturday to slide from first to third position in the standings.

Meanwhile, Gold Coast secured a clinical victory to jump from fifth to fourth position with four victories in six outings. Valley fell from third to fifth position after a loss against Gold Coast. With an impressive victory today, Toombul climbed from eighth to sixth position, while Western Suburbs are now seventh with a loss in their latest outing.

After a disappointing loss, Ipswich are eighth in the table with two wins in five outings. Despite a win, Wynnum-Manly are still ninth in the table, while Sunshine Coast pulled together victories in both games to climb to tenth position.

University of Queensland and South Brisbane take the next two last positions with a solitary victory in five games each.


Sandgate-Redcliffe secure two victories on the trot to climb to the top

In the first game, Redlands batted first and posted a total of 150, with contributions from Sam Heazlett (44*) and Liam Smith (40*). Liam Guthrie and Harmon Sandhu picked up two wickets each for the Wynnum-Manly. In response, Joel Curtis (67*) top-scored for the Wynnum-Manly, as they sealed the chase under 18 overs.

The second game saw University of Queensland compile a score of 160, with Angus Lovell scoring 60 against Sandgate-Redcliffe. The foundation was already laid by openers, Jack Cooper (62) and Jake Winter (71*) as the Sandgate-Redcliffe finished the game under 18 overs.

In the third encounter, Brendon Schultz (69*) guided Sunshine Coast to a decent total of 168. In response, Ipswich were bundled out for a low score of 62, with Param Uppal and Samuel Gardiner taking three wickets each.

The fourth game saw Redlands square off against Toombul, with the latter posting 202 on the board. Amritpal Grewal (82) and Lachlan Hearne (66) were the top scorers for the side. Thereafter, Leigh Drennan (46) turned out to be the best batter as Redlands lost their second game today by 26 runs.

In the fifth fixture, Sandgate-Redcliffe played their second game of the day against South Brisbane. With a terrific performance from openers, Jack Cooper (73) and Blake Macdonald (67), Sandgate-Redcliffe set up a 200-run target. The opposition were completely blown by their bowling unit and were bundled out for 104. Mitchell Buckley and Mitchell Swepson scalped three wickets apiece for the Sandgate-Redcliffe.

Sunshine Coast’s second appearance of the day came against Western Suburbs, as they scored a formidable total of 209, with impressive knocks from Nicholas Selman (106*) and Mackenzie Harvey (80). Then, Bradley Hope and William Bosisto scored fifties for the Suburbs, but they fell short by seven runs.

In the last game, Valley managed to construct a 129-run total against Gold Coast, with Harry Dixon as the top run-scorer. Thereafter, Nick Kelly remained unbeaten on 67 off 48 to complete the chase for Gold Coast under 15 overs.
