The Kerala Cricket League 2024 marched on further with a double header on Saturday, September 7. Kochi Blue Tigers defeated Aries Kollam Sailors by 18 runs in the first match of the day. Meanwhile, Calicut Globstars prevailed over Thrissur Titans by six runs later in the evening.

The outcome marked the first defeat of the Aries Kollam Sailors this season. They continue to remain at the top of the Kerala Cricket League 2024 points table with three wins and a defeat from four matches. Kochi Blue Tigers rose to number two on the six-team standings after their latest win, all while holding an NRR of 0.472.

Calicut Globstars jumped from the bottom of the table to take the third spot by registering their second win. With four points from four games, their current NRR stands at 0.020. Alleppey Ripples slipped from number two to number four courtesy of an inferior NRR of -0.873.

Trivandrum Royals also lost two rungs to slip to fifth position with two wins and an NRR of -0.941. Thrissur Titans, with just one win from four attempts, slipped to the bottom of the points table after losing to the Calicut Globstars.


Basil Thampi, Pallam Anfal headline Saturday double-header

In match 11 of the Kerala Cricket League 2024 season, Kochi Blue Tigers batted first and conjured 147/9 from 20 overs. Openers Anand Krishnan and Jobin Joby charted dazzling half-centuries at the top. KM Asif (4/23) and Sharafuddeen N M (3/19), however, tilted the tide back in the favour of Aries Kollam Sailors.

In response, the Aries Kollam Sailors batting line-up was bundled out for just 129 in 18.1 overs by Kochi Blue Tigers captain Basil Thampi (3/17). Jerin PS, Anoop G, and Shine John Jacob also chipped in with two wickets each as the Kochi Blue Tigers secured an emphatic 18-run win.

In the second match of the double-header, Calicut Globstars made 183/8 courtesy of a fluent 59 from wicketkeeper-batter Maruthungal Rasheed Ajinas. Pallam Anfal smeared 33 runs from just 10 deliveries at the death with three boundaries and three sixes.

Chasing 184, Akhil Scaria and Akhil Dev V picked up three wickets each to keep the Thrissur Titans down to 177. The Globstars registered a six-run win in a topsy-turvy final over.
