The popular reality quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC)’s 16th season had a cricket-related question for ₹8,000 featuring the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday, August 14. The contestant was asked – "Who won the Orange Cap for scoring the most number of runs in IPL 2024?"

The multiple-choice question provided four options – Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, and Abhishek Sharma.

For the unversed, Kohli amassed 741 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of 154.69 for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the latest season. He scored one century and five 50s as he won the Orange Cap.

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Abhishek Sharma enjoyed a breakthrough 2024 IPL season. He scored 484 runs in 16 games at a strike rate of 204.21 with the help of three half-centuries.

Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Pant also enjoyed a stellar year on his comeback to competitive cricket after a 15-month gap following a car crash in December 2022. The left-hander amassed 446 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 155.40, including three half-centuries.

On the other hand, Punjab Kings skipper Dhawan had a forgetful season due to a shoulder injury. The southpaw played only five games, scoring 152 runs at a strike rate of 125.62, including a solitary fifty.

It can’t be confirmed whether the contestant picked the right answer. Notably, cricket-related questions have become a new normal in KBC.

Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer in IPL

Apart from 2024, Virat Kohli stays the overall leading run-scorer in IPL by a fair margin. Earlier this year, he became the first-ever player to score 8,000 runs in the T20 league. The right-handed batter has 8004 runs in 252 matches, hitting eight centuries and 55 half-centuries. He also has the most centuries in the tournament.

Among others, Shikhar Dhawan holds the record for most boundaries in the T20 league. The left-hander has scored 768 fours so far. He is also the second-highest run-scorer in the cash-rich league, scoring 6769 runs in 222 matches with the help of two tons and 51 half-centuries.

Apart from the two senior players, Abhishek Sharma earned his maiden India call following his exploits with the bat this year. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant played as the first-choice wicketkeeper on his national comeback at the 2024 T20 World Cup.
