On Monday, August 12, the opening episode of the 16th season of the popular Indian reality TV quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) included a question on cricket about the Indian Premier League.

The quiz show host, Amitabh Bachchan, asked the contestant, Utkarsh Bakshi, a cricket-related question for INR 80,000. The question was:

“Who was the Most Valuable Player in the 2024 IPL season for his all round performances?”

The four options given to the contestant were: Pat Cummins, Virat Kohli, Sunil Narine, and Travis Head. The contestant, however, was not aware of the answer.

He opted for a lifeline 'Audience Poll,’ which helped him succeed. The answer was Sunil Narine, who played a massive role as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lifted the IPL trophy for the first time since 2014.

Sunil Narine had an amazing IPL 2024

The Kolkata Knight Riders player Sunil Narine was at his very best during the IPL 2024. With Gautam Gambhir back in the dugout as a mentor, Narine was again given the task of opening the batting alongside Philip Salt, and he didn’t disappoint.

The left-handed batter scored 488 runs in 15 games at an average of 34.86 and a strike rate of 180.74. Narine smashed three fifties and a brilliant hundred against the Rajasthan Royals in match number 31 at Eden Gardens Stadium. He scored 109 off 53 balls, smashing 14 boundaries and six maximums. However, KKR ended up on the losing side in the thriller of the game.

Meanwhile, Narine was equally effective with the ball. He took 17 wickets at a decent economy of 6.69, playing a major role in KKR's success.

Kolkata defeated SunRisers Hyderabad in the final game of the tournament. Chasing a target of 114, Venkatesh Iyer led the way by scoring 52* off 26 balls as KKR won the game by eight wickets, lifting their third IPL title.
