The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the latest rankings across all formats on Wednesday (October 2). Jasprit Bumrah rose to the top, while batters Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal made big jumps in the Test rankings.

Bumrah replaced teammate Ravichandran Ashwin to become the No. 1 Test bowler. The right-arm pacer recently emerged as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 11 scalps in the bilateral series between India and Bangladesh.

Jaiswal gained two spots to reach third position and also register a career-high rating. The southpaw was the standout batter in the Bangladesh series with 189 runs in four innings. Moreover, he is second on the list of highest run-scorers in the current World Test Championship cycle with 1,217 runs in 20 innings.

Meanwhile, Kohli returned with knocks of 47 and 29* in the final Test against Bangladesh to climb six places to sixth position.

In-form Sri Lanka batter, Kamindu Mendis climbed five spots to reach a career-high 11th position in the Test rankings. The talented left-hander has amassed 1,004 runs in eight Test appearances at an exceptional average of 91.27, with five centuries.

Ravindra Jadeja is still the No. 1-ranked all-rounder in the longest format. He recently became the 11th player to record a double of 3000 runs and 300 wickets in Tests.

India maintain dominance in WTC 2023-25 cycle

With a sensational 2-0 series whitewash over Bangladesh, India are well placed to earn a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final. They are currently at the top of the table with eight wins in 11 games, and a win percentage of 74.24. Meanwhile, Australia (62.50) and Sri Lanka (55.56) hold the second and third positions, respectively.

The Rohit Sharma-led side will meet New Zealand at home for a three-match Test series this month. Then, they will play a five-match away Test series against Australia from November 22.

The last two editions of WTC have seen India emerge as the runners-up, while losing to New Zealand in 2021 and Australia in 2023.
