Jasprit Bumrah completes 400 international wickets on Day 2 of 1st IND vs BAN 2024 Test

Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah became the latest to complete 400 international wickets on Day 2 of the first Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, September 20. Bumrah is the 10th Indian bowler and the sixth fast bowler from the nation to reach the landmark. The 30-year-old got there by dismissing Bangladesh tailender Hasan Mahmud (9).

The Indian right-arm pacer put in an excellent bowling performance on Day 2 of the Chepauk Test. He claimed 4-50 in 11 overs as Bangladesh were bowled out for 149 in 47.1 overs, responding to India's first-innings total of 376.

Bumrah went into the Test with 397 international scalps to his name. On Friday, he dismissed Shadman Islam (2), Mushfiqur Rahim (8) and Mahmud to complete 400 international wickets. The 30-year-old also added the scalp of Taskin Ahmed (11), cleaning him up with a yorker, to take his tally of international wickets to 401.

Team India's lead pacer ranks 10th on the list of bowlers from the country with the most international wickets.

Former India leg-spinner Anil Kumble leads the list with 956 wickets from 403 matches. He is followed by Ravichandran Ashwin (744), Harbhajan Singh (711), Kapil Dev (687), Zaheer Khan (610), Ravindra Jadeja (568), Javagal Srinath (551), Mohammed Shami (448), and Ishant Sharma (434).


Jasprit Bumrah's impressive international stats

Bumrah has needed only 196 international games to reach 400 wickets. The ongoing Test against Bangladesh in Chennai is his 37th match for India in the red-ball format. The right-arm pacer has picked up 163 wickets at an average of excellent average of 20.49, with 10 five-fers.

Looking at his record in the white-ball formats, the Ahmedabad-born pacer has played 89 one-day matches and has picked up 149 scalps at an average of 23.55 and an economy rate of 4.59, with two five-wicket hauls.

In T20Is, he has represented the Men in Blue in 70 matches and has claimed 89 wickets at an average of 17.74 and an economy rate of 6.27.
