The Northern Superchargers have appointed Harry Brook as their captain ahead of The Hundred 2024, with the men's season beginning on July 23. The youngster expressed excitement at taking up the role and is looking forward to working with ex all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, who is the coach.

The right-handed batter has been with the Superchargers for three years, but it will be his first captaincy stint. With Jos Buttler's captaincy coming under doubt due to back-to-back failed World Cup defenses, Brook could ramp up his leadership skills in The Hundred and lead England in the future.

Addressing his appointment as captain, the Yorkshire batter said it will be extra special captaining the side this year and expects exciting things from the squad. As quoted by Sky Sports, the 25-year-old said:

"It's an honor to captain Northern Superchargers, and I'm really excited for it. It's always special to play at Headingley and to represent the area, and to do that as captain in The Hundred this year will be extra special. I really like the look of the squad we've formed, and I think there's a lot to be excited about. I can't wait to work with Freddie and the rest of the group and hopefully, it'll be a year to remember."

In 19 matches in The Hundred, the right-hander has scored 512 runs at 39.38 while maintaining a strike rate of 167.86.

The Yorkshire batter performed well in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA. He finished with 145 runs in eight matches, averaging 72.50, striking at 157.61.

He top-scored with 53 off 37 against South Africa and almost took England to victory, but was dismissed in the final over as Aiden Markram took a breathtaking catch, steering the Proteas to a nervy win.

Brook also top-scored with 25 off 19 in the semi-final against India as the defending champions lost by 68 runs while chasing 172.
