Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead the Rest of India (ROI) side for the upcoming Irani Cup tie against Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai. The BCCI announced a strong 15-member squad for the five-day game, starting in Lucknow on October 1.

Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, who impressed with a century in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy, was named in the squad. Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal have been included in the ROI roster subject to India not picking them in the playing XI for the second Test against Bangladesh from September 27 to October 1.

Abhimanyu Easwaran will be deputy to Gaikwad after finishing as the second-leading run-scorer with 309 runs at an incredible average of 77.25 in the Duleep Trophy. Duleep Trophy performances were further rewarded with Ricky Bhui, the leading run-scorer in the tournament, earning his rightful place in the 15.

Shashwat Rawat, Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal also got the nod after finishing in the top six leading run-scorers in the Duleep Trophy.

Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, 22, was rewarded with selection to the ROI squad for finishing as the fifth-leading wicket-taker. Other prominent names like Prasidh Krishna, Mukesh Khaleel Ahmed and Rahul Chahar formed the core of the bowling lineup.

Despite leading India A to the Duleep Trophy title, Mayank Agarwal did not make the squad, owing to his poor form with the bat.
