India are taking on Bangladesh at Green Park in Kanpur the second Test of the two-match series. The hosts are 1-0 up in the series, having registered a comprehensive 280-run triumph in Chennai, and will be keen to carry on with the same momentum. Bangladesh had their moments at Chepauk but failed to capitalize on the same.
India got off to a disappointing start with the bat in the Chennai Test but made a great comeback courtesy of a fighting partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. The former scored a hundred on his home ground and also claimed six wickets in the second innings.
Keeper-batter Rishabh Pant also made a memorable comeback to red-ball cricket on the big stage with an impressive second-innings ton. Further, Shubman Gill made up for his first-innings duck with a hundred in the second essay. While India ticked most of the boxes in Chennai, they would want skipper Rohit Sharma and senior batter Virat Kohli back among the runs in Kanpur.

India have won the toss and have opted to bowl first. Rohit Sharma explained:
“Looking at the conditions, plus there's a little softness in the pitch. There's a little bit of grass on it, so we feel it's better to give our bowlers a chance upfront."

In his pitch report, Murali Kartik says it’s a black soil pitch, but there is enough straw-colored grass in for the bowlers to extract some movement. He points out that traditionally pitches in Kanpur have been low and slow. Plenty of runs can be scored in the first innings, but scores tend to get low as the match progresses, the former left-arm spinner concludes.
